Guide for Authors

Types of paper

SISE publishes Full Length Research Articles, Short Communications and Review Papers.

Full Length Research Articles
This type of papers refers to original research articles written based on the results obtained during an innovative research investigation, conducted in considerable depth, with critical analysis and discussion of the results to establish connections between advanced materials microstructure/properties, design/manufacturing and performance validated at the material and structural level.

Short communications
This type of papers covers research reports of immediate value. There are no limitations on word count and figure number but the total length of the article should not be exceeded 4 printed pages.

Review articles
This type of articles only acceptable from the authors who have already published considerable number of contributions on the topic. In the review papers, it is asked the authors to provide a review on the state of art of the subject with a critical assessment of methods, approaches, published results and their reliability by contributing to the consolidation of knowledge in the relevant area.

Length of papers
Each type of the papers should have predetermined printed pages including references and appendices (if any), according to the Table 1. All papers should contain an abstract from 100 to 300 word count depending on the paper type as specified in Table 1.
Table 1. Paper and Abstract length.
Paper type Paper (printed pages) Abstract (word)
Full Length Research Articles 8-12 200
Short Communications 3-4 100
Review Papers Up to 50 Up to 300

Novelty statement
To start the peer-review process on submitted manuscripts uploading a novelty statement in a separate page is mandatory. In this file the authors should explain the novelty and originality of research work and its scientific contribution beyond previously published papers.

Highlights
Submitting three to five bullet points highlights are mandatory. Each bullet points should contain maximum number of characters including spaces. The provided bullet points should reflect the novel results and outcome of your research.

Manuscript Structure
The manuscript should be organized to contain the following subsections:
Title, Authors name and affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Material and methods or Theory/calculation/simulations, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Appendices, Acknowledgments, Funding and References.
You have to organize your article in clearly defined and numbered sections. Title, abstract and references must be excluded from numbering. Subsections should be numbered as 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.2 etc choosing a brief and proper subsection title. Avoid using more than three levels headings. It is recommended using this numbering for internal cross-referencing in the manuscript text.
Manuscript files must be submitted in Word (or LaTeX) only. Type manuscript text body on consecutively numbered pages of letter size (21.59 cm × 27.94 cm) in double-spaced typing using 12 points Times/Times New Roman font. Respect 2.54 cm margins on top, bottom right and left.

Title
The title should be concise and informative reflecting outline of the work avoiding aberrations and formulas. Use point 14 bold for typing title and restrict its word count to less than 30.

Author names and affiliations
Write complete name and family name of the authors just below the paper title with accurate spalling and separate them by comma. Authors’ affiliation should be given below the names; indicated using alphabetical superscript devoted to each affiliation appeared immediately after the authors' name and in front of the appropriate address. If All authors have the same affiliation address, there is no need for superscript. Affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) ought to contain full postal address of institution, country name and the e-mail address of each author.

Corresponding author
The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal at all stages of the manuscript submission, peer review, publication and post-publication processes. This responsibility includes manuscript correction, handling the revisions, preparing response to reviewer comments, re-submission, proof reading, and answering to the any future queries.
Please indicate clearly which of the authors is corresponding author using * footnote appeared immediately after his/her name. Provide e-mail and his/her contact details including fixed telephone and fax numbers at the footnote.

Present/permanent address
The provided affiliation should indicate the address at which the author actually contributed the work. In the case of moving to new working address a 'Present address' or 'Permanent address' could be mentioned by a footnote to that author's name using superscript Arabic numerals.

Abstract
The abstract should be written concisely to state factually the purpose of the research, the employed techniques/simulations, the principal results and major conclusions. It is essential that the abstract be standalone. Therefore, it should contain all necessary information avoiding non-standard or uncommon abbreviations and references.

Keywords
A number of 6 keywords are required. Keyword are important for the information retrieval process. Therefore, they should be selected carefully to reflect the field and main achievements of the work.

Introduction
In the introduction the authors should explain the rationale behind the current study. This should be performed by summarizing the main achievements in previous relevant research works and highlighting the gaps in knowledge. Therefore, the objective, contribution and novelty of the present research to fill the gap should be briefly and precisely stated. It is recommended avoiding a detailed literature survey, a summary of the results or citing irrelevant references.

Materials and methods (Design/calculation/simulations)
Experimental procedure including designed and conducted process steps and characterizations (design procedure, calculation and simulations steps and details) should be described exactly with sufficient details. A clear and concise justification of the conditions and procedures of the study and the employed analytical tools or methodology are required as well. This ensure reproducing of the same results by an independent researcher. Specify the as-received state of martials, exact involved process steps, the trade mark of the characterization equipment and the relevant standards. To avoid self-plagiarism, summarize the already published methods by including changes and citing references.

Results
The collected data and analysis should be presented clearly and concisely in the form of popper figures and tables in a logical order i.e. in order of importance. It is proposed using subheadings to separate the results of different experiments. It should be avoided duplicating the data among the figure, tables and text. For experimental measurements it is necessary evaluating the significance and precision of the reported data by performing statistical analysis and reporting 95% confidence intervals or at least standard deviations.

Discussion
The findings, explored facts and/or mechanisms; presented in the results section, should be discussed in the context of the research questions and objectives. In discussing the obtained results, it should be avoided restricting to simple interpretations. A well composed discussion should explore the broader implications and significance of the achievements. Try to provide recommendations for the direction of future research on the topic. A combined Results and Discussion section also is acceptable. Avoid excessive citations and discussion of published literature.

Conclusions
The outcome of the presented results and discussions should be summarized as the main conclusions of the study. It is recommended that this section be stand-alone avoiding repeating the exactly the same statements in the results and discussion sections.

Appendices
Appendices are appeared just after conclusions and all mentioned roles for typesetting the manuscript should be respected as well. The appendices must be indicated with capital A, B, etc. letters. The figures, tables, equations should be numbered separately according to the appendix name for example Fig. A1, Table A1, Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc. or Fig. B1, Table B1, Eq. (B.1), Eq. (B.2), and so on.

 Math formulae
All math equations and chemical reactions should be typed in separate line in the form of editable text and not as images. Indicate each equation with a number Eq. (1), Eq. (2), etc. Simple or small equations could be inserted in normal text. This requires using “/” and “exp()” instead of small fractional terms and power of e, respectively.

Abbreviations
All abbreviations must be defined at their first usage in the manuscript text. It is recommended avoiding abbreviations in the abstract but if essential they must be defined in the abstract itself in their first usage.

Figures and illustrations
  • Illustrations should be numbered according to their sequence in the text using Arabic numerals in the form of Fig. 1, Fig. 2 etc.
  • All Figures and illustrations should be cited in the text.
  • All details (tests, inset, numbers, scales and signs) in the figures and illustrations should readable and understandable in the final printed size.
  • Prepare all figures and illustrations according to the proposed format.
  • Each figure should have proper caption given in the manuscript text not attached to the figure.
  • Avoid including titles or captions within illustration.
  • Denote different parts of figures and illustrations by lowercase letters (a, b, etc.).
  • Figure caption should be concise describing accurately what the figure depicts.
  • Acceptable file format for the figures and illustrations are tiff, jpg and Microsoft Office plotted files.
  • Prepare tiff and jpg formatted illustration with the minimum resolution of 1000 and 600 dpi for the bitmapped and colored images and drawings, respectively.
  • In the original submission, insert figures and illustrations in the manuscript text near paragraph that they have been cited. Place figure captions on below of the figure.
  • For the accepted papers original figures and illustrations are required.

Tables
Tables should be prepared as editable text and be placed next to the relevant text in the article. Number tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Place table captions on top of the table in the article text and do not attached them to the table. Table notes must be given below the table body. All aberrations should be defined in the article text. The data presented in tables should not be the duplicate of results described in the other illustrations.

References
Please provide list of references just after appendices numbered in the same order as they appear in the text. Site references by numbers in square brackets; [], in line with the manuscript text. For more than two reference sequentially please cite the first and last one number separated by dash line. You can refer to a reference citing author(s) name followed by the reference number. Avoid referring to unpublished results and personal communications as reference. Every reference cited in the text should be present in the reference list (and vice versa). It is recommended management of references using conventional reference management software products followed by finalizing according to the proposed referencing style.
